What is the difference between the National Guard and the New York Guard?

The New York Guard serves to augment and assist the NY National Guard. We have the same responsibilities as the National Guard, but without the federal mission. We serve voluntarily within New York State and cannot be deployed overseas.

To be eligible for service, applicants must be

At least 21 years of age and under 55 (65 if prior service)
A citizen of the United States
In reasonably good health
